Get Jiggy With Roo - music by Ken Rimple
Abstract:
SpringSource made a bit of a splash at SpringOne with their new developer productivity tool, Roo. The tool is bent on making it easy to build and maintain Spring-based applications by automatically wiring up the platform, and it provides for integration with technologies such as JPA and ORM, Security, JMS, Bean Validation Framework, Selenium, Spring MVC and WebFlow, and more.
Ken Rimple will review the goals of Roo, the underlying architecture, the concept of Mix-Ins, and build an application from the ground up using the tool. He will also discuss Spring's overall goals with Roo, and the project's relationship to Grails, a more mature, Groovy and dynamic programming-based platform, and how the two tools overlap and/or differ in approach.
About Ken:
Ken Rimple got started programming using a Commodore 64 and an old 12" TV. Since then, he has upgraded his equipment and approach a bit. A past client/server and database geek in Oracle, Sybase, and other databases, he has been working with Java since version 1.0.2, and has seen many frameworks and platforms come and go. Ken is currently heading up Chariot's education practice, where he develops and presents material on Spring, Groovy, Grails, Maven, and other technologies.
So come see Ken do Roo! Hmm sounds a lot like kangaroo.
Hope to see you all there!
Dmitry
